Tai Chi Skills, Drills & Patterns

Online Course with Suzette Hosken from Jade Lady Tai Chi and Qigong

Tai Chi Skills, Drills & Patterns

Refine your Yang Tai Chi form through skills, drills and patterns. This course is a good follow-on from the 13 Fundamentals course.

We learn 8 drills that each contain several tai chi movements. Each movement is explained in detail and we then have time exploring and flowing through the sequences. The 8 drills have been combined into one flow pattern that allows time to really focus on the intent of each movement.

Throughout the series we cover all ten of Yang Chengfu's Ten Important Points of Tai Chi Chuan and explore these concepts and how they relate to practising your tai chi. This series will complement and enhance any Yang tai chi form that you have learnt in the past or will learn in the future.

Repeating tai chi patterns offers a great opportunity to work on your technique while enjoying flowing exercise. The smooth movements will lubricate your joints, strengthen muscles, tendons and bones, and calm the nervous system. Your balance will improve, your mind will be clearer, and you will finish the class feeling energised and calm.

An added bonus of this series is that several times we flow through a simple qigong form that uses a short stick, or bang, as a warm up. The sticks are around 2-3cm diametre and 40-42cm in length. However students have gotten creative and used rolling pins, wooden spoons and various other implements instead, which is great. You might like to make your own (buy pine dowel and sandpaper from your hardware store and ask them to cut it to size for you).
